Thai IP law is run by the Department of Intellectual Property under three main acts:
- The Trademark Act protects brand names, logos and other signs
- The Patent Act protects inventions, petty patents and designs
- The Copyright Act protects creative works such as text, images, music and software

Frequently asked questions
When is my trademark protected in Thailand?
The filing date secures your priority at once. Full registration follows the examination by the Department of Intellectual Property, whose timing depends on the office and on any objection.
How long does a Thai trademark last?
Ten years from the filing date, renewable for further ten-year periods. The renewal is filed within the three months before expiry.
